I recently asked a like minded friend if he would be willing to stand as a Non-Political Party Political Party Candidate in his Ward.
His response was; “I don’t want to die!”
My friend is well entrenched in the community structures and a man of the people for the people. A man who puts the City and the welfare of it’s people first. A man who is well aware of the ways in which Ward Councillors circumvent common decency and respect in order to line the pockets of their benefactors, relatives and supporters.
Now, when people are trying to kill each other over access to a Councillor’s salary, benefits and discretionary power then we know that corruption and a culture of “Fuck the people” has permeated our entire society.
As an example he cited the hidden hand of how a former Councillor still runs a present Councillor – someone who went from being a shop assistant to a position of power and respect. How Ward Committee members fight and intimidate each other for their R1000.00 per month stipend. How public purse money goes to different people with different names but who all stay in the same household or belong to the same family. How people in power have learned to never eat the first bowl of food or first drink offered to them. How the ‘mafia tendencies’ are so entrenched and openly used that ordinary people have a snowballs chance in hell of making a difference. How those in power forget that the people put them in power.
If this is happening in our political structures then just think what is happening in our administrative structures!
