The Healthcare Workers Crisis Beats the Politician Fat Cat Posts 36 800 to 1
Spotlight reported in September 2020: “An additional 14 791 health workers and an additional R8.1 billion would be required by 2025 to keep densities at 2019 levels (status quo).” According to this model, a shortage of around 16 000 professional nurses needs to be addressed to reach the equity target by 2025.”
SA Medical Association chairperson Dr Angelique Coetzee said doctors in the public sector were overwhelmed due to staff shortages.
A Google search for “shortage of healthcare workers in South Africa” reveals 36 800 results for the search term.
Contrast that with the search term “shortage of politicians in South Africa” which has only ONE result from 2014 prefaced by the word NO!
Why do we have a situation where there are NO shortages of political posts (EVER) but Healthcare officials face a crippling shortage of nearly 15 000 posts by 2025 if the politicians do not free up the medical sector and get off their fat lazy butts to action the filling of posts in this LIFE or DEATH sector?
Our voters are dying and the politicians are playing the “headless chicken” game – time for change methinks.
