If a body only has ONE person standing for a position in an election and that person is subsequently elected is it fair?
With reference to the recent election of Nqaba Bhanga as Executive Mayor of Nelson Mandela Bay:
- It was followed by a letter from the MEC for Co-operative Government and Traditional Affairs, Hon Nqatha, stating that the election of an Acting Speaker and, therefore, the election of a Mayor at the Nelson Mandela Bay Special Council meeting, was unlawful and therefore null and void
- Which was replied to with vehement denials by Andrew Whitfield saying; “The DA has no doubt that the election of Executive Mayor Nqaba Bhanga was legitimate and that all necessary processes were followed to elect an Acting Speaker to preside over the council meeting.”
- And followed up with the declaration that the matter should go to court
We now have many opposing views and attempts to hold onto power by two political parties continually at loggerheads and continually fighting against each other.
In all the back and forth I am reminded of the Zimbabwean Proverb which states; “When Elephants fight the grass gets trampled!” In this specific instance we, the citizens of this metro, are the ones being trampled on.
Both parties are so wedded to power and the fight against each other that neither will give way and cannot see that they are destroying themselves with this stupid vendetta and insane need to hold onto power and money.
All these court actions are ANOTHER FORM OF TAXATION on an already beleaguered nation reeling from the effects of COVID-19.
Why do I say “TAXATION”? Politicians do not PRODUCE any product, they cannot increase revenue via sales. The easiest thing to do is increase TAXATION as they have become far too comfortable earning salaries that are DOUBLE the national average. In the case of the fight over Mayor any form of court action will use public funds or donor funds and not actual profits as made in the normal course of a normal business.
The time for the voters to cut out the cANCer, Expecting Farms and Finance plus the other Desperate Alternatives is fast approaching – we need an anti-political party to take over. One that puts citizens first and recognises good people NO MATTER WHICH SIDE OF THE FENCE they stand on.
