In South Africa and the rest of the world for that matter – the role that opposition parties have claimed for themselves is one that involves continuous sniping and pointing out of how inefficient, corrupt and bumbling the ruling party is…
Frankly I think that that position is one that is self destructive and an insult to the intelligence of the citizens of South Africa – we can see that things are not right and to continually read headlines, social media posts and letters to the editor that scream how incompetent the ruling party is, is quite tiring.
For once I would like to see opposition parties acknowledge good work by the ruling party or by the civil servants in our midst. This continuous beating of the ‘rabid dog’ is setting our entire country up for failure as we become immune to the corruption and failures in our midst.
This ‘rabid dog’ beating is destructive in that it makes us ignore the politicians, ignore elections and allow the status quo to continue indefinitely.
For once I would like to see an opposition party guide our ruling party, assist our civil servants and conduct their oversight with dignity and focus. Too often we see opposition parties attempting to take on the elephant in one big bite instead of fixing the fundamentals that are wrong in South Africa.
For me the fundamental that we need to fix is PRIDE – once all South Africans feel that sense of PRIDE in self, neighbourhood, city, province and country then we have the power and fuel to move forward.
We are the country because of our citizens NOT because of our politicians. People First, Politicians Last.
