We are all well aware of these activities going on at our dear municipality (hang in there for some more revelations over the next few months!).
NOW
With our corruption fighting, clean living new Executive Mayor and his party one would think that the first order of business would be an attack on all forms of corruption in the Municipality.
BUT NO
Tomorrow the media have been invited to a media conference announcing steps against individuals who allegedly tried to bribe DA councillors in the run-up to the Nelson Mandela Bay council meeting on Thursday, 28 January 2021.
The release says; “These attempts to influence DA councillors were done in desperation to keep council from re-electing Nelson Mandela Bay Mayor, DA Cllr Nqaba Bhanga. This NMB bribery scandal follows against the backdrop of revelations at the Zondo Commission regarding State Security Agency (SSA) funds that were used to influence judges and politicians.”
One would think that a witch hunt to find Councillors without one’s own political party susceptible to a bribe would:
- Not be a high priority given the high state of corruption, bribery and fraud within the municipality itself,
- As a voter most interested in getting the City of Nelson Mandela Bay back on track I would have preferred that the new Mayor and COGG focus on the miscreants within the municipality FIRST and deal with their disenfranchised members susceptible to bribes quietly.
After all – does being a member of a particular party REQUIRE YOU to only vote for that party line DESPITE what your constituents may instruct you to do?
